Creature Comforts N°1
A relaxing little Sunday self-care to replenish and reset yourself for the week ahead—from your Guardian Angel of the Lagoon.
At the end of each weekend, I find myself stretching to find little comforts near me. It’s the only way I can cope. You might call me the slayer of Sunday scaries. This new newsletter is a soothing way to transition you from weekend to weekday and the ultimate antidote for weekly back-to-work anxiety. Behold, the Sunday Pick and choose whatever fills you up and save some leftovers for later in the week.
Happy Sunday!
Welcome to our first Sunday Comfort sesh. I’m getting misty-eyed! Let’s dive right in, shall we? I’ll preface this hodge-podge by noting that I am a very sensitive person, and I’m not ashamed to admit that. Sometimes Sundays bring me this sinking feeling like I messed up at work or have a class speech to give in the morning. It’s such a strange phenomenon.
This feeling is, supposedly, a common experience! Terrible really. Sundays should be a time for relishing, relaxing, and regrouping. This is my dream for the weekly Creature Comforts newsletter. We’re going to get through the upcoming week just fine. Trust yourself to deliver you another weekend. You know it’s just around the corner! In the meantime, we have today. How can we sink a little deeper into the present and enjoy this Sunday? Treat yourself to a tiny slice of good.

Grab a cuppa! Brew yourself a hot pot of tea or coffee. Grab a cookie or biscuit and cozy down. Pay special attention to your senses. What word comes to mind to describe the aroma? Remember this word tomorrow when you’re having your morning beverage. Does it take different on the tip of your tongue versus the sides? Did you gussy it up with cream or sugar? Savor it all.
Put on the radio. It has a unique way of shifting the vibe in your space. Why not try one of my favorites: NTS Radio’s Infinite Mixtapes. These are “music-only themed radio streams, made from NTS resident and guest shows” and they’re really good. Spice it up.
Get out of your head and into someone else’s. Grab a book that has a K in the title. Don’t have one? Head to Project Gutenberg and pick a number 1-100. It’s like playing the lottery. What will you win? Crack it open. Read a chapter.
Post a letter. Write someone a little note and send it their way. You might opt for a handwritten letter with doodles on the envelope. You might also keep it simple and just type up a text message or an email.
Do one little thing today that’ll be ready and waiting for you tomorrow. Here are a couple of ideas, but feel free to be a rebel and dream up your own little thing.
Find a new podcast and queue it up for your morning commute.
Assemble a little snack to bring to work.
Pick your outfit. Lay out everything, socks and all.
Brainstorm what you want to have for dinner tomorrow. Scroll Pinterest if you need some inspo. Will you need to swing by the market after work for ingredients? Text yourself a little shopping list. Something to look forward to tomorrow instead of dread! Yippee!
