Happy Sunday, gorgeous Creature!
This week, my sister’s painting teacher told her class about the symbolism of a lotus flower. It’s a beautiful flower that grows directly out of muddy, murky waters to produce clean and vibrant petals just atop sparkling water. It does not require pristine conditions to grow and flourish. In fact, it requires mud.
At times, we might find ourselves frustrated or feeling limited, thinking, “I can’t bloom in these conditions!” It’s too easy to think we can only blossom in specific conditions—maybe that’s having a romantic partner, a house, a higher salary, freedom from some burden, or a different career. But what if we could grow from the mud?
Let’s bloom in the dark.
The lotus composes itself from mud. This strikes a chord with me. I’m in the mud. Are you here too? I wonder if we can grow ourselves a lotus down here. This week, I’m adopting the lotus mindset. I’ve made up my mind that I’m going to blossom in the mud. Join me?
The lotus flower rises from a dark place, symbolizing beauty and rebirth. It actually needs the darkness to emerge. Lotus flowers also return to the mud at night and blooms clean above water again the following day.
Thank you for being here ♥︎ I’ll talk to you next Sunday!
This Week’s Journal Menu
Reflection: Think about a garden and envision yourself enmeshed with the garden as a whole. What role do you play? Are you a lotus root incubating in the mud? Are you the gardener, walking around tending to the other plants? Are you a rose rolled up tightly in a little bud, ready to unfurl and soak up sunshine?
Self Check-In: Back to the lotus—what part of this symbolism resonated with you, if any? What conditions have you been thinking you need in order to blossom? Write them down and reflect on how the muck and the mud.
Expand: How might you be stronger without the “thing” you think you need (i.e., a partner, house, a family, different hair, more money, better health, another career, etc.)? What have you learned from experiencing life without it? Remember that your desires are signals. What could they be signaling for your attention?
